Job Summary:
The staff will be responsible to conduct vaccination activity. The person could be deployed both at static health facility and at the community level to conduct outreach. He/she will be accountable to his/her supervisor as assigned by the senior project staff.
Main tasks and Responsibilities:
Assess client’s readiness for vaccination and administration of the vaccine to already consented individuals.
Conduct static vaccination sessions as well as hold outreach activities in the field.
Administer vaccines correctly in accordance with national guidelines and protocols.
Maintains accurate record/chart of monitoring coverage of the target population.
Maintains accurate vaccination records including daily and permanent registers, and additional records on due and defaulters.
Provides counselling to the care givers on the preventive and promotive health aspects of the vaccines, vaccination schedules, when to return for the other shot of vaccine etc.
Receives vaccines from the field office/local health authorities and ensures that the cold chain is correctly maintained to the point of actual immunization in accordance to standardized guideline.
Participate and conduct mopping up and or any other supplemental immunization activities/campaigns.
Liaise closely with social mobilizers/community health workers/heath promoters to avoid missed opportunities (including screening of cards) for immunization of children and adults to be followed up on due list and defaulter tracing.
Prepares weekly/ monthly statistical report, vaccine consumption/wastage rates and submits in timely manner.
Ensures that used syringes, needles and all vaccinations vials/ampoules are stored and disposed of per protocols.
Adhere to infection prevention and control practices during vaccination activities, including proper PPE use.
Monitor any vaccine immediate side effects after vaccination and ensure availability of emergency medical support.
Ensure availability of facility monthly and yearly vaccination targets, achievements and map of catchment area in the EPI room.
Dispose of clinical waste as per national protocols and guidelines.
Adherence to data protection and information as per national standards.
Address any concerns and queries appropriately and refer where necessary to gain advice or information.
Maintain written records, recording vaccine details under correct patient to communicate to data entry person.
Report and record vaccines preventable disease cases following international and national guidelines and conduct/support immunization, mopping up and/or any other supplemental immunization activities/campaigns.
Liaise closely with health workers within the facility, CHWs/CHVs and other staff to avoid missed opportunities (including screening of cards) for immunization of children to be followed up through list and defaulter tracing.
Coordinate with the nutrition wing for the treatment and immunization of the identified malnourished children and their follow up.
Act in a respectful and culturally sensitive manner towards other colleagues and the community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Typically, holding a vaccinator diploma with at least a higher secondary school certificate. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Should have experience of working as vaccinator/EPI focal point in a health facility.
The Vaccinator should have a pleasant personality, good interpersonal and communication skills.
He/she should have good planning and record keeping.
He/she should be flexible, committed and dedicated.
Must know national and local language.
